Mental Disorders on Campus
At the end of Fall Semester 2017, this project was completed. In total there were 276 stickers placed with approximately 200 participants. Overall, I benefited tremendously from this project - from improving my communication skills to meeting new people and developing professional relationships. However, there were quite a few obstacles that I had to overcome in the duration of this project. Through my meetings with various professors and faculty I learned the importance of sharing my project in a private, secluded place as participation could be taken as a sign of vulnerability or make students feel uncomfortable. Therefore, it become a daily task to find places that fit this description, such as the CAPS center on SUU campus, classrooms with a class size of less than 20 students, and small groups of students around campus. As I continued through my project, this became easier and easier, especially when I became more comfortable approaching my fellow peers. By the end of my project, I believe that I have gained enough participation to accurately conclude that mental disorders are a common occurrence on our campus, which was the main goal of my deliverable.
